What is this site about?
It is a place for Rob Henry to learn and break and learn WordPress.
Who is Rob Henry?
Rob Henry is me. I am a web developer… well, hopefully… I am employed as one and we are a .NET shop. So I have successfully developed and deployed sites using ASP.NET MVC. Also (using that .NET knowledge), I am also responsible for a couple of CMS sites using Umbraco. While I still love .NET and will always to some degree be a Microsoft fan-boy, I would like to spread my wings and learn what the rest of the world is doing.
Why WordPress? It isn’t exactly the newest, most exciting technology out there…
True, WP might not be the “sexiest” thing out there. It is incredibly powerful, outstandingly ubiquitous, and… it’s just what you do. I have a couple personal projects in front of me and there simply isn’t another solution out there that allows me create great websites that only require some minor training for the content-providers.
Who’s the key demographic for this blog?
Me. Sorry. I’ll be bumbling my way through learning WP and documenting that process. The site will go down. Parts of it will break completely or function inexplicably. The only one that will be affected will be me, so the pressure is off to fix it in a timely manner.
However…
If someone does stumble onto this blog and finds even one entry helpful, that would be amazing. Please comment and let me know. Even though I’m essentially keeping a diary here, I will be attempting to (I’m not a professional writer) write as if there was an audience waiting with bated breath for some of my knowledge “bombs”.
What will you see on this blog?
My attempts to apply knowledge learned from the Digging into WordPress book, as well as the WP Codex, old NetTuts articles, and other WP bloggers, such as CSS-Tricks.com.
